One of the most important parts of any zip wire is the wire.

There are many wires out in the marketplace that have been suggested for use with zip wires. After many years of field testing, and the selling of hundreds of zip wire kits, we have two recommendations as to which wire to use.

To be able to get the best out of your zip wire, it is strongly recommended that you use a Galvanised wire. The wire we sell comes in 10mm and 12mm diameter and is available in two different specifications.

The choice is either a 7x19 construction, which offers a moderate speed to the rider or, a 19x7 construction which offers not only a smoother ride, but also a faster ride.

After a great ride down any zip wire the one thing that every zip wire ride needs is a brake to help you stop.

Again, we have a selection of Spring Brakes to fit all our 10mm and 12mm lines.

Another important part of any zip wire is the connection between your trolley and either your seat or harness. Normally this would be by either a chain or a lanyard which is now the more popular option.

Depending on which kit you go for, here is the simple choice of having a rubber seat that connects via lanyard to your trolley, a rubber seat with a galvanised chain to connect to your trolley or if you have the Junior Zip Wire then we have the Rope and Plastic Button seat for you.

Looking to protect your trees from the wire cutting into them, then add some of this Plastic Tree Saver Tubing to your order and help to protect your trees.

This plastic tree saver tubing is sold by the metre. Simply slide the 3.5mm thick plastic tubing over the wire before putting around the sending end tree and you are ready to go.

Every kit that has a strop in it, will have the plastic tubing already in place over the wire between the two soft eyes.

Well now there's no stopping everyone enjoying one the most exhilarating fun experiences ever. Recently we were asked by an Isle of Skye resident if we sold a zip wire that their severely disabled son could use.

So we design and came up with a solution that offered a zip wire kit for both the son and the rest of the family to use that was fully interchangeable.

One thing that every zip wire needs is for the zip wire cable to have some tension put into it.

Here we have a tensioner for all size wires that are used in our range: 10mm and 12mm.

Depending on which size wire is being used, and in which tyoe of setting, they come in the form of either a Galvanised Turnbuckle or a Cable Drum Tensioner

At all times when using a zip wire, safety should be paramount and at the forefront of your thoughts.

Ok so not everyone wants to install a zip wire by drilling through trees. So to help out we have some turnbuckles which you can use with some wire grips and one or two of these Zip Wire strops.

These Strops are available in various size wire and various lengths.

Complete with soft eyes at each end, these strops allow for inaccurate measuring and for those who do not want to drll through any trees.

This selection of Support frame crossbar brackets are for use when installing a simple A-frame.

They are attached to the back end of a Support frame crossbar at the receiving end by simply drilling a hole in the centre of the crossbar, and two smaller holes to take your fixings (either studding rod or coach bolts, both with Nyloc nuts)

Once you have drilled your holes, feed the rolled and fused end of the wire through the bigger centre hole from the back of the support bar.

When you have pulled all the wire through the hole, you can then connect the thimble eye in the wire with the bolt.

Please note:
Studding Rods or Fixing bolts are NOT included and are something you will need to buy from a good Hardware store.

Bolts to be inspected and retighten (if needed) at every inspection

Most people will know what for why you sometimes need a Karabiner with a zip wire.

One of the most used parts in a zip wire if you are using a lanyard to connect to a seat and trolley is a karabiner.

When you are looking at buying and fitting a zip wire, one of the first things that you need to consider is how you are going to fix the zip wire in place. Normally, if possible, you would try and install the zip wire run between two trees, however this is not always possible. The best alternative way if you cannot put up between two trees, is to build a couple of support frames.

This page is here to offer you some advice on wood and to show you a number of different support frame designs that can be built very simply for use with your zip wire. The easiest way to build a support frame is the simple A-frame support which can be easily built using
Kiln dried machined finished (150mm) round wood with Tanalith 'E' treatment.

It's worth remembering that each and every zip wire is unique and that no two zip wires are the same, although the general principles of installing a zip wire are the same.

One other thing to bear in mind when installing a zip wire is that there is no real science to working out the best height at either end or tightness of the wire. It really is a question of following our generic instructions and then fine tuning the ride until you find what you are comfortable with.
